Story Plot and more drawings
The film plot
Forbidden planet starts off with the crew of a small space cruiser that are sent to investigate the disappearance of another ship which were on an unknown planet. The crew lands and are greeted by a robot called Robby who takes them back to his creator, Morbius. Morbius explains that the rest of his crew were wiped out by an unknown creature and he also shows them around his home which contains alien technology which possesses the power to bring any thoughts to reality. The crew are attacked multiple times by the creature throughout the film and it is later revealed that the creature is in fact an object of Morbius' imagination as a result of him using the alien device.
The game plot
The game's plot follows similarly to that of the film but the characters will be updated and the role of Morbius will be replaced with Robby as he will guide the crew through the remains of the lost civilization. The villain in the plot would be a final survivor of the alien race who has the ability to create things with his imagination. Due to this ability their technology is pretty much perfect. The player can customise their soldier and they can be either male or female.who is a member of the second ship sent to investigate the disappearance of the first ship. At the end of the game in the final battle the player has to use a type of counter device to prevent the villain's ability to create objects at will.
The game will be a third person action adventure game that would feature some platforming and slight exploration elements. The game would have some rpg elements such as upgrading weapons and armor which will help them when fighting enemies. The enemies in the game are mostly hybrids of organic and mechanic materials created by the surviving alien in an attempt to revive his people.

This image was an initial design for the device, it was going to be a seat that the creature would sit in and the helmet would cover his head. I later decided to have the helmet as an actual object the villain could wear all the time.
Images for what I associate with my idea.
Experimenting with shapes for the alien race.
Silhouettes of the enemies.
Example of how objects materialise.

This image was some ideas for how content from the 1950s movie Forbidden Planet could be adapted to create a modern action game. The tower on the left was the reult of playing around with different geometry to try and create an industrial like piece of alien technology.
The image on the right was the result of me trying to give Robby the robot a visual update, it consists of numerous floating sections that can come together to change the bot's form. Originally the sections would form an orb like object but when it comes into contact with the humans it takes on a humanoid form as it stands on two legs, has two arms and a head which is normally the center of the orb. It changes to a human like form to make it seem more relatable not only to the human characters, but also the player. I took to calling the updated design 12-0-13-E (ROB-E).
The bottom image was an unfinished result of me trying to figure out what this long lost race of aliens would look like, I found this to be extremely challenging as it is hard to come up with an idea that is truly "alien". After some consideration I think that the aliens would have to have been similar to humans anatomically as my idea for the planet is similar to the earth thus, evolution would result in a humanoid creature. The aliens would also have to appear to be extremely wise and civilized as their technology is thousands of years more advanced than the human's. I later did a 3D sculpt of what the aliens could look like as well as the human military soldiers.

Pulp Fiction
I have now watched Pulp Fiction and have rather specific idea in mind for what type of game it would be. I currently think that an open world game would be best suited for the version of Los Angeles shown in the film. After some research I have found that it is quite difficult to tell when exactly the movie is set, it is most likely to be the 90's but it contains architecture from the 50's, fashion and music from numerous eras and technology from the 90's. I think the mixture of references from different eras helps to create an interesting setting and combined with comical characters it would make a good game. The recently released GTA 5 is set in a fictional L.A and is similar to Pulp Fiction in the way that the story follows multiple main characters whose stories are intertwined but they also have their own issues to deal with. I think if the film was to be adapted to the game it would have to follow one character who was possibly not in the movie so it allows more freedom with the narrative and gameplay.
This is a mood board of different objects to try and create an overall tone for the film and game.

Forbidden Planet
I have now watched Forbidden Planet and have some ideas for what the style of the game would be as well as how the Narrative can be changed.
After watching the film I think that a character in the film called Morbius could be removed from the plot and replaced with Robbi the robot who instead of being built by humans was actually built by the aliens.
This was a sketch I did while watching the film for what I imagine the planet to look like and some quick side views of what Robby could look like. The robot on the right is similar to a design I used for a previous project but with a more scrap metal like appearance.
The technology on the planet would have to be much more futuristic in appearance. Initial thoughts would have massive structures with floating sections.
